Investigating the causal model of the notion of GOD and moral development with mediating role of wisdom of gifted students

Abstract

In psychology, intelligence is considered a personality trait, cognitive ability, or a combination of both. The relationship between intelligence and consciousness has been explored in various studies, as both are foundational for moral development in adolescents. The present study investigated the causal model of belief in God and moral development with the mediating role of intelligence among gifted female students. The research design employed in this study was correlational, using structural equation modeling. The population consisted of all gifted female students (n=340) in Khorramabad during the academic year 2021-2022. The sample size was 160 participants, and cluster random sampling was employed. The instruments used in this study included the Smartness-Webster Scale (SWS), the Moral Development Scale (MDS), and the Religious Status Inventory (RSI). Data analysis was conducted using structural equation modeling. The results of this study indicated a good fit for the proposed model. Overall, the indirect effects of the research model demonstrated that belief in God indirectly affects moral development through the mediating role of intelligence. Based on the findings of this study, it is recommended to emphasize the promotion of ethical behavior and the importance of ethical principles by strengthening intelligence and belief in God in educational, instructional, and particularly counseling programs. Additionally, attention should be given to the consciousness of adolescents.
